ABC Kids Expo 2013 – Day 2

Diono

One of today’s biggest announcements comes from Diono (you can find all the details here). They have added 3 new car seats to their lineup: The Olympia, Pacifica, and Rainier .  They feature deeper side wings, even better side impact protection and all three models maintain an 80 pound Super LATCH rating, subject to 2014 federal standard changes.

The Olympia: new covers, new fashions and improved side impact protection.  It has a 45 pound rear-facing limit, 70 pounds forward-facing and 110 pounds in booster mode.  $279.99

The Pacifica: adds a deluxe infant body support cushion and increases the limits to 50 pounds rear-facing, 90 pounds forward facing and 120 pounds in booster mode. $319.99 these are some impressive limits, until now the Clek Foonf was the only seat offering a 50lb rear facing weight limit in the US.

The Rainier: the top model in the lineup and adds a thicker, more protective looking headrest to the Pacifica.  $359.99

Clek

(See a complete update on what’s new for Clek here).

All Foonfs now will have a longer crotch strap, black bars in the rear, and an easier install for the rebound bar. *update: I received a message from Clek that the adjustable length crotch buckle will be available for purchase for those who have the original crotch buckle. Price is $14.99 plus shipping (usually around $5). They will be posting to the Clek facebook page when they’re available for purchase.”*

Paul Frank fashions are being phased out and Tokidoki is coming in its place. The designs follow Clek’s penchant for crazy/cute designs.

Halo

This is an extremely breathable bassinet called the Halo Bassinest Swivel Sleeper. It has a removable leg so it can also be used for co-sleeping in mom and dad’s bed. It won a JPMA innovation award, AND was chosen as the judges best in show!

From JPMA: “The HALO® BassiNest™ Swivel Sleeper’s patented, dual-swivel design allows the BassiNest to rotate 360⁰ from two pivot points. It swivels elliptically, allowing the BassiNest to be pulled into the bed next to mom; it also rotates circularly, making it easy to angle as needed and provide mom with ease in getting in and out of bed.

Mountain Buggy/Phil and Teds

I requested a photo of their new stroller called the Nano that won a JPMA award, but they weren’t allowing photos to be taken (Im assuming its still a prototype?)

From JPMA: A truly lightweight, compact folding travel stroller that offers an authentic Mountain Buggy experience, nano provides dual functionality of car seat compatibility to easily transforming into a fuss free urban stroller – a desired product for today’s busy, travelling modern families. Nano is the world’s lightest compact travel system.

******Updates on Day 1 products featured*********

4 moms:  the self installing car seat is still in early prototype mode, and expected release isn’t until the end on 2014 (and lets be honest…its ALWAYS longer than expected). So if you are currently expecting it may not be ready in time for your baby. So far, it looks like the seat will be rated from 4-22lbs (not that impressive) and will surely be VERY pricey. So…meh.

Peg Perego: the infant seat is being called the “four thirty-five”. Harness is no rethread. Base includes “right tight” system to ensure proper tightness. Even though it has a high weight limit, it only measures 26″ front to back (similiar to a Chicco key fit) so it wont take up as much front row legroom as some other high limit seats. And it will be 2.2 pound lighter than the older model peg infant seat. It also has a label showing not to put it on top of a shopping cart (!!!).

shown here with preemie sized doll (look how nice the upholstery is!)

the clima covers will cost $70 for the infant version and $100 for the convertible version.

They also have a showercap style cover called the “Igloo”, a cupholder for the convertible seat ($25) and a travel bag for all carseats ($60)

Britax: All convertibles that once had a 70 lb limit now will have a 65 lb limit due to new testing standards. They are also dropping the numbers from the end of the seat names. So the Roundabout 55 will now be the Roundabout, the Marathon 70 will be the Marathon, etc. Babies R Us will have an exlusive on an Ultimate COmfort Series of the new G4 seats with memory foam

Mima: Also showed this stroller (I don’t have a name yet)
